
At times, it’s a defiant throwback to the dance scene that first made Ware famous (“I wanted people to think, ‘When is she going to calm this album down?’”) at others, it’s a thrilling window into what might come next (note “Remember Where You Are”, the album’s gorgeous, Minnie Riperton-esque outro). Here, pulsating basslines reign supreme, as do whispered vocals, melodramatic melodies and winking lyrics. (Dua Lipa, Lizzo) and Joseph Mount of Metronomy, What’s Your Pleasure? is a world away from the heartfelt balladry once synonymous with Ware. Indeed, made over two years with Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford and producers including Clarence Coffee Jr. By my standards, this album is pretty joyful.”

“As much as I don’t think I’m going to save the world with this record, I do think it provides a bit of escapism. The premise was: Will this make people want to have sex? And will this make people want to dance?
